Split Apple Retreat, Kaiteriteri
The Brief: Split Apple Retreat is a premium lodge, retreat and wellness spa at Abel Tasman National Park, offering health and wellness related services for those wanting to recharge in a luxury environment. A highly ambitious, large scale landscape project, it was important to the client to create an atmosphere of private seclusion and a give a real sense of getting away from it all in a tranquil location.
Outcome: The final Japanese-inspired design with distinctively New Zealand planting and materials, centres around a central stone pathway that leads down to a private beach. Local Iwi were consulted as a blessing was important before project commencement. We used a selection of green foliage, flowers and palms juxtaposed with smaller natives already on the site to add texture, colour and privacy where suitable screening was needed for example between the luxury suites and the open-air yoga pavilion.
A large saltwater infinity pool with 180-degrees views of Tasman Bay and adjacent spa was also part of the brief, the final design felt very much part of the landscape; a very inviting and peaceful oasis for guest to recharge and relax.

John took on our very ambitious project and came up with a plan that met our long list of practical requirements and interpreted our vision for the project well beyond expectation. The final design integrated the eastern element we wanted with the native environment and produced a harmonious outdoor experience that reflected the healing ethos and service delivered in-house.
